KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) welcomes Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah’s appointment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the tenth Prime Minister of Malaysia on Thursday, and highly appreciates His Majesty’s initiative to form unity government which includes all political parties, ethnics, religions and regions.

MCCC believes that Malaysia as a diversified country, requires a comprehensive and inclusive government to bring political stability, ethnics and religious harmony, and prosperous economic development.

MCCC hopes that under the leadership of the new Prime Minister, all parties will work together to lead Malaysia towards a brighter future, to focus on the well beings of the people, and to bring drive to the economy. These are the main concerns of the business community, foreign companies and the peoples after years of COVID-19 pandemic and uncertain political environment, and all will work together with the country to revive the economy.

It is also the wish of MCCC that the new cabinet members will be multi-racial and merit based, to take care of the rights and interests of all ethnic groups and to facilitate investment. The new government should be pragmatic and forward looking, working on the economy without delay, seeking pragmatic measures to relieve people’s hardship caused by high inflation and to solve the current challenges facing by the country.

MCCC makes the following 4 suggestions to the new government;

1. Strengthen human resources training
The MCCC believes human resources is key to the country’s competitiveness. In view of this, MCCC recommends that the new government should undertake a long-term and comprehensive plan to provide effective human resource training programs to meet the manpower needs of local and foreign enterprises and effectively address the unemployment issues.

2. Concerns on brain drain issues
The brain drain phenomenon cannot be underestimated, and the new government should work on retaining talents and the allocation of human resources.

3. Upgrade the Infrastructure
Infrastructure construction drives national economic development, and will attract foreign direct investment when transportation and logistics are easily accessible. Therefore, MCCC hopes that the Malaysia-Singapore high speed rail (HSR) can be implemented under the new government’s administration.

4. Work out favorable policies
Only by formulating relevant policies that are conducive the national unity and religious harmony and maintaining political stability can allow the country move towards prosperity and development.

Since MCCC’s establishment in 1990, we have actively promoted the economic development between Malaysia and China. As China is Malaysia’s largest trading partner, MCCC is looking forward to a win-win situation under the new government, where both countries will strengthen their cooperation in the economic, trade and other sectors.
