HUNAN: Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) President, Tan Yew Sing was invited to the 10th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair held in Changsha, Hunan Province. In addition, Tan was also invited as the speaker for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Enterprise Business Forum.
Tan Yew Sing and Neil Foo Seck Chyn, CEO of Secretariat for the Advancement of Malaysian Entrepreneurs (SAME) are also appointed as the members of the ‘APEC SME Business Forum Bureau’. This Bureau will continue to hold this annual event and present the forum recommendations to the APEC Ministerial Meeting of SMEs to practically promote the SME Innovative Development in the Asia Pacific region.
This year, the organizers of this forum are the China Centre for Promotion of SME Development and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China International Cooperation Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, APEC SMESA (the Alliance of APEC SME Service Agencies), Beijing Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Changsha Municipal Government. Themed speakers include Li Genxin, The Director of Legal and External Relations of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban-Treaty Organisation; Victor Cadena, Executive Vice President of Mexican Chamber of Commerce in China; Wang Yuzhu, Head of Center for APEC and East-Asia Cooperation, Graduate school of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and etc.
Li Genxin’s talked about ‘SME Innovation Model and International Vision’. He emphasized that SMEs are the driving force for innovation, including opening up new materials, new products, new platforms, new technologies, new mobile platforms and new financing model and etc.
Victor Cadena focused on his experience in new strategies for SME innovation and development. He talked about the challenges and bottlenecks in the development of SMEs including lack of funding, lack of professional advice, international resources, lack of systematic information, product research, e-commerce and technology and etc.
Wang Yuzhuo clarified that SMEs are an innovative platform and main source of employment, which remarkably stabilize a country. In his opinion, the SMEs in APEC’s 21 countries have different problems and should support each other through communication. We must focus on promoting the inclusive development of SMEs. He believed that the key to the success of SMEs in today’s society depends on management skills, entrepreneurship, corporate culture, innovative thinking, business environment, market access, financing capabilities, internationalization and e-commerce capabilities.
The two-day 10th China International SMEs Trade Fair and 2017 APEC SME Business Forum attracted government officials, experts, scholars and entrepreneurs representatives from over 30 countries and regions to communicate and cooperate on a win-win platform, and explore the direction of innovation.
The Forum will be held every year to enhance the communication among government, academia, research and other industries, and to shape an international platform to serve the development of SMEs in the Asia Pacific region.
