Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) actively seeks more women entrepreneurs to join the chamber. The Sabah Branch President, Datuk Liew Chun Tai, also supports this act by saying that the establishment of the Youth Wing and Women Entrepreneur Committee will become one of the branch’s future goals.
Datuk Liew Chun Tai welcomed the visit of Women Entrepreneur Committee from West Malaysia to Sabah and expressed the hope that both sides will establish closer ties and have greater cooperation in all aspects in the future.
Datuk Liew also urged the Women Entrepreneur Committee to encourage more female friends or business partners in Sabah to join the Sabah Branch. This will provide everyone a chance to participate in various activities and programmes.
Datuk Liew also briefed the Women Entrepreneurs about the various advantages of Sabah. For instance, Sabah is near to Indonesia, Brunei, and Philippines. It is the center of ASEAN countries with 600 million people in the market. Therefore, Datuk hoped that they can develop their businesses in Sabah and not only in China.
Shirley Low, Chairman of the MCCC Women Entrepreneur Committee, revealed that this time she will try to recruit more Women Entrepreneurs to join the committee. She would like to pay a courtesy visit to the nine branches of MCCC within a year and Sabah is their first station. During their stay in Sabah, they will also pay a courtesy visit to Sabah Women Entrepreneurs & Professionals Association (SWEPA), Rotary Club Kota Kinabalu, and Kota Kinabalu Hardware, Machinery & Building Materials Traders Association.
“According to statistics, Government departments have more than 30% of women are in the management level. In the private sector, only 15% of women are in the management level. There is still much room for improvement,” Shirley said.
Both sides also discussed various latest commercial and building materials and other information, as well as the development of various industries in Sabah, such as bird’s nest industry, tourism industry and construction industry.
