Zhanjiang City is formerly known as Guangzhou Bay and has a long history and culture. It was once the largest colony in history by France. The total area of 1,300 square kilometers was larger than that the New Territories of Hong Kong. Zhanjiang is still the best natural harbor between Hong Kong and Indochina.
When the then Guangzhou Bay was returned to China, it was renamed as Zhanjiang. In the beginning, it was a small town full of Western sentiment. After many years of evolution, the incumbent government has realized the importance of preserving historical sites and spares no effort in preserving the historical materials and its monuments, so that people can still hear about Guangzhou Bay even after nearly half a century.
