Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce
Strong Dissatisfaction over the Malicious Discredit and Slander against Robert Kuok Hock Nien
By MCCC President, Mr Tan Yew Sing

27 February 2018

Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) made the following statements on the allegations claiming that Robert Kuok Hock Nien was funding the Democratic Action Party (DAP) to overthrow the government.

1. The false allegations made by the blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin in his news portal ‘Malaysia Today’ include “Malaysian Insight Funder Fingered” and “Robert Kuok Wants Chinese Rule in Malaysia” – both of which were published last Wednesday, 21 February 2018 – and “Robert Kuok’s Last Chance at Changing the Government” published on Friday, 23 February 2018. The false accusations of the article triggered more than politicization and racism, but a frivolous accusation of innocence. As we all know, Raja Petra is in exile in the United Kingdom. This controversial figure and the “Malaysia Today” founded by him often make reproachful remarks so as to attract the public’s attention. The MCCC expressed its strong dissatisfaction over the malicious discredit and slander against Robert Kuok Hock Nien. We call on the rumor activist to make his case known to the public as soon as possible and hope that politicians will cease all provocations that undermine racial harmony.

2. Robert Kuok Hock Nien’s life is legendary with his commercial fortune and demeanor. The domestic and foreign successful entrepreneurs were inspired by him. He is even more of a contributor and plays a pivotal role to the economic and trade exchanges between Malaysia and China. Therefore, he is highly respected by the China leaders and has been invited as the VIP for many occasions. He also maintains good and harmonious relations with several prime ministers and government officials in our country. It can be said that he is much respected and his esteemed status has surpassed race, political parties as well as national boundaries.
What is even more commendable is that his recent publication of his memoir. It is a summation of the wisdom and experience of his life experiences and opportunities. He hopes to inspire more young people.

3. Malaysia has been independent for 60 years now and is a young country that still needs to build a multifaceted society. Therefore, Robert Kuok Hock Nien’s good policy of building a nation for our country is not only a manifestation of his patriotism, but even represents the aspiration of most people. That is, he hopes that this blessed country will continue to develop in a diversified and inter-ethnic direction.
Robert Kuok Hock Nien, who surpassed the myth of the race, was discredited, is an expected incident. I believe there are more rational citizens who can see the truth and not blinded by rumours.

Robert Kuok Hock Nien is currently a senior citizen. In this phase of his later years of life, he still persists in caring for Malaysia. His spirit is absolutely commendable. In his memoir, he made his heartfelt remarks to the young people in this country. As the Chinese saying goes, “Good advice jars on the ear yet it is beneficial in guiding one’s behavior”.

If our country can put aside its racial prejudice and actively learn and seek advice from Robert Kuok Hock Nien, we will truly gain the essence and inspiration from his memoir. That will be our country’s blessing!
