The 2018 MITI Day, which officially took place on February 26, attracted a total of 8,000 people and 60 organisations. Thirty companies provided over 3,000 job opportunities to the public at the Expo.
It is worth mentioning that, in line with the development of the Internet era, Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry, Dato’ Sri Mustapa bin Mohamed, introduced a one-stop i-incentive website on the same day that includes 121 incentive packages including tax exemption and soft loan services. Those who are interested can visit https://incentives.mida.gov.my for more details.
Mustapa said Malaysia’s trade volume reached RM338.7 billion last year, with exports increasing by RM157.8 billion (7.8%) over the previous year, led by exports from tourism, business and telecommunications.
“The service industry is a major economic catalyst for our country, accounting for 54.4% of our GDP last year and contributing as much as RM1.5 trillion with an average growth rate of 6.2%.”
Mustapa hopes to see the industry grow by 5 to 5.5% this year and is confident that it will account for 56% of GDP by 2020.
